“sandhills music” is a limited edition of interconnected writing and music by Ben Seretan. This small run of cassette tapes contains 57 minutes of weather and tones bundled in a five-foot-long scroll printed with the project's words—a flag, a text, a tangible embodiment of what we do online endlessly.
One afternoon in the middle of North Carolina a storm rolled in. The wind picked up and the rain started falling and the front porch wind chimes, ordinarily gentle, almost inaudible, began cutting through the weather. Each tone called something forth, overlapping swirls of resonance. "sandhills music" is a humble effort to synthesize what was captured—the sounds, the tones, the associations, the cars driving by, the stories, the interconnected pangs, the unfurling scroll.
50 are available from an edition of 100.
A digital version of the project is available to hear and read on Soundcloud.
Ben has selected The Yellowhammer Fund to received 15% of our profits.
“The Yellowhammer Fund is a 501(c)3 abortion fund and reproductive justice organization serving Alabama, Mississippi, and the Deep South. We envision a society in which reproductive decisions are made free from coercion, shame, or state interference, a society in which individuals and communities have autonomy in making healthy choices regarding their bodies and their futures.”
