Tonight | August 31, 2010 | JtB

All 100 of the flags in this evening's Nigel Peake release were cut by hand and sewn by my mom during the hottest summer on record in RI. Just thought I should point that out in case one or two of you thought there wasn't enough love involved.

Friend of Showcase KWG aka Keith Warren Greiman aka Other Keith, or First Keith, depending on which Keith you are speaking to, has a show opening at Part Time Studio, an artist collective in Philadelphia, on September 3rd. You can also read a new interview with that dude here.

Friend of Showcase Ryan McLennan and his friends at Triple Stamp Press have released a loose-leaf art book that I am holding, in my hands, and it is gorgeous. The set of twenty prints come packaged in a box made of baltic birch and white pine and features a selection of Ryan's greatest work to date.

And friend of Showcase Marci Washington and I are getting pizza for lunch; we decided. It's been decided.

Witness: Katrina | SnF

Our friend Erik Carlson (aka AREA C) recently completed a score for a two-hour documentary on Hurricane Katrina. Witness: Katrina premiered on the National Geographic Channel and screens again on Monday August 30th, 2010 at 5pm Eastern Standard Time.

A unique documentary, it's made up entirely from video footage shot by people who rode out the storm, whether by choice or not. Much of the musical score uses sounds taken from the actual video footage as well.

Over the course of 72 hours, Hurricane Katrina went from a cataclysmic storm to a catastrophic flood, which in turn became an apocalyptic human tragedy. All the while, amateur videographers, news crews, and countless others were recording the sights and sounds of the unfolding chaos. Weaving together more than a dozen of these sources, Witness: Katrina reconstructs Hurricane Katrina as it happened, entirely through the eyes of those who experienced it.

We just missed Casey Roberts' show at Walker Contemporary in Boston BUT you can catch more of his work on his portfolio site. I would advise you to blow off your work and spend your Friday looking through his recent works.
